Problems germinating burdock

Hi all, I'm a newbie :)

I'm having a problem that I hope someone here can help me with. I'm trying to grow burdock from seed which I harvested last autumn from wild burdock plants in various locations of the UK. According to everything I have read, this should be an easy task!! However I have yet to get a single seed to germinate. Now, following advice, last autumn I planted some of the seeds outside at a depth of about one inch, but there is no sign of growth yet. In February I planted an indoor seed tray, covering each seed with the suggested cm of compost, but still nothing. Last week I have set an open germination tray with a wick to keep the tissue moist, and I'm running out of ideas.

Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong? Do burdock seeds generally germinate late in spring? Should I have refridgerated the indoor seeds before planting?

Any advice much appreciated!

Chloe
