Amaranthus' seem to reseed pretty prolifically for me, I grew A. love lies bleeding, A. candleabra, A. towers and a smaller one with burgundy leaves whose name i can't remember, all of which have reseeded very well year after year. I would assume that dreadlocks would do the same.

Will they reseed through mulch? or should I pull it back in the fall until Spring when I see new growth?

Yes, they do die back to the ground. They seem to pop up through the mulch for me, even in the wood chip pathway! The mulch I use in the gardens is very fine because it is double or triple ground, almost like soil. This may make it easier for them to reseed through? But I think they are just tough little buggers:)

I forgot to say...you can also easily collect a ton of seed by just drying on of the flower stalks. I put mine in a brown paper bag and hung it in a dark closet, the bag catches the seed so they don't fall all over. Each flower has about a million seeds in it!:)

Where do you grow it? I have a pretty sunny spot I am thinking about.....

But, I have heard the more sun the less vibrant the color but the more shade the more pathetic the plant....

So you see my pickle about these guys.

I heard to ignore them... no fert.. but lots of water?

So much mixed advice.. what do you suggest?

I grow mine in full sun in a garden with not so good soil, they do need plenty of water. I usually fertilize everything with liquid fert. every other week. I have never noticed the color being less vibrant....but then again I have never tried growing them in shade! If you have extra seed, why don't you try a couple in the shade too, if you have a place? That would be a good experiment, and you'll have to let me know the outcome if you try!
