Growing from Seed

Cosmos Seeds

I have cosmos that reseeded themself this year and I had cosmos from h____. They were 48" tall and thick. I pulled them all out and I'm sure thousands of seeds are in the soil. I want to put some winter flowers in now and wonder how to keep the cosmos from germinating. Is there a certain preemergent that will work? Thanks for any help on this. Betsy.

If the flowers you are going to plant are not being grown from seed, you can use a pre-emergent. You will still get some seedlings, but only a small percentage. Al

Next time, it's easier to deadhead than deal with tons of seedlings you don't want (or chemicals.)

The weather here in CA is very warm, no hot, right now so there are hundreds of little cosmos coming up already. I am pulling each one out by hand. Then a pre-emergent. Thanks.
