Basically tropical plants that are grown as warm season annuals in our parts benifit most from bottom heat. For example: Begonias, impatiens, petunias, cosmos, zinnias, marigolds and warm season veggies like peppers, tomatoes, cukes, melons and squash. Most of the time bootm heat will greatly speed up the germantion speed of the above plants seed. Plants such as cleome will not benefit from bottom heat since they need fluctuating soil temperatures to break seed darmancy. Temperate region seeds will benfit from bottom heat as long as their chilling requirements have been met.

Bottom heat is also an excellent way to get cutting to root quicky.
