googling 'butterfly orchid' im only getting results for actual orchid species. you said you grew it from seed/bulb which leads me to believe what you're talking about is not an actual orchid. do you know the latin name?

I know it's a type of gladiolus.

These aren't winter hardy in my own coastal zone 8 unless container grown and the pot moved someplace protected Nov-Feb. If the corms do survive winter in the ground here, they will likely have gotten too cold overnight for the corms to form blooming stems.

" During the winter, the corms need temperatures of between 40 and 50 degrees. Water well in summer and feed 4 - 6 times during the growing season. Keep corms dry in winter to prevent rot. Rich but well draining soil"

I see my mistake. Thank you so much for letting me know. I'll definitely lift them in winter from now on. I have two croms left to work with. I hope I do this right because I really think they are pretty.

i'm wondering if the winter damaged bulbs will make offsets? If so maybe I should try replanting them in a very rich soil next spring rather than throwing them out. What do you think. Do these make offsets like other bulbs?
