They can be brought indoors for the winter. I have a black magic taro that I'll be bringing inside, plus a few other aquatics. Just keep them moist and give them plenty of light, though watch out for sun scald if in a sunny window. The taro (elephant ear) may do better with diffused light. Don't let them dry out.

Thank you nancym1956 - do you cut these plants back and leave them in the pot they are in? Do you let them die back on their own? As you can see, I've never done this before.

This is my first year as well, so I'm sort of winging it. However, I have spoken with others about this, and from what I understand they will behave like a houseplant. They shouldn't need to be cut back, just trim off any dead foliage. Anything that stays in the pond, such as hardy water lilies, will need to be cut back, but your papyrus and elephant ears should look nice as they are in the house. Just prune as needed.

Treat them as houseplants. Place them near as much light as possible such as a south window and keep them moist.
