A/C and Pavers

My A/C unit is currently on a plastic base. My pavers are going to be installed so they are higher than the plastic base.

How much of a gap do you recommend I have between the base of the A/C unit and the edge of the pavers? I live in California so It doesn't rain often, but I don't want rain water to flow into the unit.
