Yes, we need photos.

Beyond that, when did you plant them? I ask because brown tips sound like a q=water shortage.

The plants have been there at least since I moved in to the house, three years ago.

Have they been getting enough water?

They are watered 3x weekly with my usual yard watering.

I have been doing a couple extra watering sessions with these shrubs due to all the questions about watering, and it stimulated a few new leaves to branch out, but they already have the brown tips, even immature in size..

I had six otto luykens in front when moved into house. Three died, yellow leaves turn brown,dropped. When I pulled dead shrubs out noticed base trunk bloated and oozing with wormish holes. Peach borers love cherry laurels. Purchased Bonide 8, Borer/Miner concentrate and have been able to save remaining three (though some pest damage present). Have planted three new also and spraying those also and keeping well watered.

I had planted Otto Luykens at the beginning of the summer (I know....not the best time to plant.) The tips of my leaves have been brown all summer long but now, there appears to be new growth and tall flower spikes are shooting out of it. I thought it's only supposed to bloom in the spring, not the end of August! Can anyone tell me what's going on? Is the plant some how confused as to which season it is?

Wow! I see this is a helpful and friendly place to ask questions about plants! Ken you certainly could have been much more polite in expressing YOUR opinion. I think I'll will just move on to a helpful site for my gardening questions.
