Well my daughter had the neighbour's cat using her garbage cans for their bathroom. They also used her basement windows. The smell was sickening in the house sometimes! I heard on a gardening show that if you have cats doing that on your bushes etc., then you can use Dettol to stop them. Do you know what Dettol is? It is a disinfectant that is used medically etc., but also available in stores. The program said to dilute it one part Dettol to 10 parts water and spray it on the area that is being used as a bathroom by the cats. The Dettol has a strong smell of disinfectant but at least it is a clean smell and it really does work. First we cleaned off the windows and garbage cans by pouring a pail of water with a small amount of bleach in it, over them. Then we sprayed the windows and garbage cans with the mixture, and re-applied after a rain. The cats did stop using the windows and garbage cans, but started on the front porch and a bush that was there.....we just sprayed them too and the cats stopped altogether and she had no problem with it happening again even though the two male cats lived next door to her.

Any oxygen-type cleaner will take out the smell, & a "tea" made of any kind of hot peppers, the hotter the better, will deter the animals from returning.

Store unused tea in the fridge, & spritz the area periodically.

Is it the plantings? Boxwoods and some cedars smell like urine.

i also heard that cats HATE the smell of citrus, so leave orange peeling where you don't want them.
