Resources for Planning a Vegetable Plot

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum...but it's my best guess for this question.

I'd like some good resources about how to plan a home vegetable plot.

I have a raised bed in my front yard and am planning to add to more smaller plots this spring. In the past, I just winged it and put plants where I thought they should go. I mostly end up cramming everything that my family wants in and then some. Every year I tell myself that I'm going to be more planfull about what, where, and when to plant, but it never happens. (I also always plan to keep a log of what I plant, when it goes in, and how it does...never happens, and this also speaks to my poor planning.)

Anyway, I'd like to be able to diagram my plantings and have some sort of organization, especially since I'll have more space this year. I'm thinking, "do I plant horizontal or vertical rows...long or short rows...succession plantings...etc."

TIA for suggestions.

Geoff
