Jill, see the posting I did this morning on the other thread re: journaling. I use my computer and camera constantly. My annual journal is done is Windows Word, like a two column newsletter. It is mostly a chatty record to myself in which I talk about anything of interest to me that day, weather notes, pictures of what is blooming, hopes for new plants, snippets of cut and pasted stuff from garden listings/postings regarding some plant or other, I use color to highlight certain things. Experiment with other various Word options like ovals, etc. to make things interesting. It isn't as straightforward as a database which would also be great, but more like a diary of my daily chores, observations, etc. I still enjoy going back to them and reading what I wrote. I start one each year and I am constantly going back to review what I did and when. Things I had hoped for and what actually happened in the garden. I use my camera every day to record things in the garden. With a simple, inexpensive but very powerful program like Adobe Elements, you can clone plants in one location into another location to preview a look before digging and planting See the other posting, I included two photos I use as journaling notes of what I need to do when it is safe to dig up and divide daffodils. I also stitch panoramas of the garden at various times of the year from pictures taken on my second story. Then I can compare this view from year to year. I can't tell you how much I enjoy the integration of camera/computer into the garden. With a great program like Digital Slide Show, No affiliation, see link below, you can put all of your garden pictures on a digital slide show with music and captions/notes, etc. to play when you want to appreciate all of the wonderful changes over time in the garden. I even have sent my CD to my sister who is unable to visit and she gets a lovely experience watching the garden and season changes. I just can't keep track of paper stuff, it gets too much for me. I even take photos of certain magazine pictures/articles to put on my personal CD's for reference. I have taken pictures of notes I made, for example, on pictures of various beds, what is planted where. See these photos:

Soooo, as you can see there are a million ways to do this.
So it is up to you and your preferences.

I have used Ofoto.com for journaling...it's free and share-able. Plus if you have pics you end up wanting prints of, they are reasonable and you can order straight from your journal.
