Well, to my recollection (5 years?), they are bulbs and so you should be able to just lift them gently, divide and replant! I've dug mine up and moved them a few times and they've done wonderfully!

I am so proud of myself (pat, pat : ) ) as I overwintered two containers of them successfully and they are doing beautifully again this year. I bought them last year and divided one of them when I transplanted it to a bigger pot and potted the other one as it was to the bigger pot. I don't see a whole lot of difference in them this year, except that the divided one has more coverage around the container. It is not bigger, by any means, but just covers a bit more area.

Dividing them is quite easy. Gently dig up the entire root ball and you will see more like what I would describe as rhizomes. Carefully split them and replant. They are a bit on the fragile side but I planted up some pretty small pieces successfully. BTW, they were repotted when I first got them last June and then again in January, after the cats found them in the basement. I have them in 18" containers. In zone 3, needless to say, they will not overwinter and have to be container plants brought in at first frost.
