Using coffee/coffee grounds on plants

I have read a couple threads about using coffee to fertilize/help plants grow but I still have a few more questions. Is coffee good for all plants or does it harm some and help others? Also, do some plants prefer coffee grounds sprinkled around their base or old brewed coffee poured on them or both?

Used coffee grounds (UCG) are what you want to use. Coffee itself can be toxic to plants. Work some of the UCGs into the ground around the plants seems to work best. Don't pile it on too thick as dried coffee can repel water.

I don't find the word ''toxic'' in the report on coffee linked above. Allelopathic, autotoxic Chemicals in Coffee: - Test Forum - GardenWeb does have some references to using caffeine to kill slugs and prevent the germination of some weeds.
