Is it true that leaves of trees transplanted from containers to the ground will lose their old leaves before they form new ones? I recently planted a papaya tree (about 5 ft. in the pot) and have been watering daily, but now the leaves are slowly wilting and turning brown. I remember something similar happening to the dwarf avocado tree I planted in January; the leaves all drooped and wilted and started falling off before new growth and leaves started shooting from the top. The avocado tree looks about 5-6 inches taller today. I am wondering if the same thing is happening to the papaya? Or should I worry and take some corrective measures? I appreciate any advice.
