Do you mean "schizanthus" - poor man's orchid?

If they are then here's what I found:

sow 8 weeks before frost or even in fall Sept. - March
Do not cover seeds; darkness is need to germ. firm into soil 20-25 days
1 ft. apart

seedlings are brittle

moist, rich sandy soil with compost/ light shade
feed weekly/good drainage
pinch for bushiness

Some say it is difficult to grow. I've had no luck so far.

I have grown these for the first time this year. They are very large and in gallon pots now. Blooming beautifully. But I am a bit dissappointed, the foliage looks like carrots which is okay, but its floppy. I am just letting it flop and the flowers are worth it. I really wanted a red one but it appears I have purple, a dark and a light and several shades of pink. Darn. But I will continue to grow them, they are stunning. These are annuals. I do have some out in the garden now and they are also starting to bloom. They seem to like the sun.
