Hi,

I have an area in the corner of my yard with holly bushes and rose bushes, that I mulch annually.

This year, I dug a trench between the mulch area, and the existing lawn. I used one of the manual edgers (semi-circle shaped "shovel" on the end of a long handle).

Basically, I went down diagonally the length of the shovel, which is about five inches. Then, I went down diagonally from the other side, making a triangle wedge of sod and dirt that I removed.

Now, my question...... I like the look of the open trench, but it's a tricky job to mulch up to the edge without it falling in.

Friends of mine say that the trench should be filled ALMOST to the top with mulch, so that you lose the trench, but you keep the defined edge on the lawn.

Hopefully, I didn't confuse everyone. Does anyone out there have a helpful hint, or did I possibly even do this incorrectly from the beginning??
