Pruning Ivy Overgrowth

Greetings ~

I have a terraced stone wall (three levels). Ivy was planted here many years ago. It hasn't been pruned in over 10 years. The depth of the ivy cascading over the front of the wall is at least 10 inches. Using the hand clippers has been exhausting and time consuming. Do you have suggestions of how to cut this ivy back more easily? (I was thinking of using a brush cutter ... am afraid of hitting the stone with the blade.)

Thank you for your help.

Annette
