I'm not sure if this is the best forum or not, but here goes:

We need to replace an existing raised bed made out of railroad ties. I have no idea how old this bed is as it came with the house, but the wood is rotting and we're losing soil on to our driveway. The bed is in a small area between our house, driveway and another raised bed, so I actually only need to build two walls since the side of my house (cement) and the other raised bed make two walls.

If we just rip out the timbers, we'd have everything spilling out (there are roses, a few small perennials and lots of bulbs in it), so I'd like to brace it somehow too. And did I mention it's on a slope? :)

So...I am looking for any advice, suggestions, etc., on how to temporarily brace it and what to use to build the new bed walls. I thought about using composite wood (aka Trex and the like) but that wouldn't really help with the slope.
