Nellie R. Stevens Spacing

Just got a super deal at a local nursery on 8-10 ft Nellie R. Stevens Holly, which I intend to plant along a fence as a privacy screen (the diameter of the plants is about 2-2.5 ft as they were grown in closely spaced pots). I am after a fairly quick, solid, right to the ground, privacy screen from the neighbors and don't want to wait years to get to this point. The nursery employee told me I could plant them threee feet on center to achieve a quicker screen, however most of the stuff I've read online says 4-6 feet on center. Can anyone comment, or does anyone have experience on whether they should do well at 3 ft spacing? Thanks.
