Use pool cover to kill weeds?

A neighbor has offered some old pool covers to me. They look like vinyl but I'm not sure. They are opaque black, square, durable and free! Any thoughts about using them to kill perennial weeds in a vegetable garden before planting? I would not use them later to plant over, i.e. as a mulch.

I don't see why they wouldn't work? If u deny the plants sunlight they will eventually die.

Grab them! I go to carpet installation stores and get old carpet - works like a charm to kill weeds!

They work great for this purpose. We had a pool once and I inadvertantly did just what you describe. Fortunately, it was an area where I wanted to start a new garden.

Incidentally, if it's black, not only do you have light deprivation to kill the plants, the heat generated under the cover will do a pretty good job, especially this year.
