Help! First Timer: Need Winter Plant Tips

Hi All,

I am a first time gardner. This year, I did a container garden with tomatoes, potatoes, corn, peppers and eggplant. I also decorated the backyard with tons of containers full of flowers. We have an excellent landlord who let me do up the entire space.

I was on Burpee and I purchased purple aster dome, as a newbie, believing it would be in its mature state. What I received was a tuber. At first, I was going to throw it away, but then thought better of it and threw it in a small pot.

Here is the thing. I would like to plant this next year when we buy a house; sometime around next summer. This plant I am told has to keep growing, going partially dormant (?) as I understand it in the winter, so therefore it cannot be cut down.

Is there any hope to save this plant over the winter, and if so, what can/should I do with it and where, etc.

Thanks all!

Jim
