I have no suggestion on what you should plant, since there are thousands of things to choose from and taste is such an individual thing. I'm sure your local nurery can give you many suggestions.

But you could have planted the area with whatever you chose without ever tilling it! And you don't have to now dig up or pull a single one of the weeds that have sprouted. See something I just posted in

As I said there, I wish everybody knew of this simple, free, environmentally safe way to deal with weeds. It would save people so much money, time, and aching backs!

Cuphea hyssopifolia or Mexican false heather will quickiy fill the area from small plants or seed. It makes a very thick ground cover and chokes out most weeds. It will die back in the winter even here but, always comes back in spring. If not just throw out more seed. Set it and forget it type of plant.

strawberries! Mine are so thick now I don't worry about weeds and We get lots of fruit.
