I don't know how big that plant gets, but say it gets to be 12 inches in diameter: make a mental picture of a 12" plate and see how they'll fit together. Obviously, you have to have some overlap or you'll have lots of little empty diamonds. If you're planting a couple of rows, you should probably stagger them, to reduce the amount of exposed soil(until they fill in). If you plant too close to the house, some of the plant will probably stick up against the house, but if you don't plant close enough to the house, you will get weeds sticking up against the house, so I'd say plant close to the foundation.
