Some people like them, don't want to scratch the driveway, but the teflon or plastic skids don't last very long. Probably why I have never seen them on a tractor attachment.

Good point Canguy. Probably not enough of a market for them to become popular due to that reason.

Try a pair of adjustable lawn mower wheels. Might work.

I used to have an older Tecumseh Snow King (1966?) that had narrow steel wheels, no skids (really just 8 or 10 gauge steel, cut into circles). They worked pretty good, but the rest of the machine pretty much shook apart about 10 years ago.

I don't know why steel wheels are not available, as a design. Seemed like a good idea.

My newer 1332 needs new skid shoes every 3-4 years. $45/pair. Hmmm...

I used to tack weld a piece of strap iron to the skid. When it wore off, I ground the welds off and attached a new piece.$45.00/pair is steep even by Canadian prices.

Yeah Same here CG ! Or if you have a friend within a Welding Shop just get him to use a little Stellite Hard Facing Rod on your current or new Skids and they will last a life time . He will probably charge you around 20 Bucks !
Stellite is used on hard facing for Heavy Equipment buckets and shovel teeth or on Grader Blades to extend the life of the metal edge .
