mantis tiller pull rope not starting

friend of mine gave me his mantis tiller to use he not used it for 2 years started ok after 5-6 pulls used it for about 1 hour on and off stopped it to clean the blades went back to start it back up and the pull rope had no resistance in it and now cannot start it anyone else been in this situation any help would be great.
