Unfortunately, those engines have a history of governor failure, shaft comes out and there really is no fix. IF that would be the case, it will be very hard to convince the customer that it wasn't something you did that caused it.

Otherwise, was the Static Governor Adjustment set and clamp tightened, loose governor linkages, screws come out of throttle plate holding it to the throttle shaft.

Let's hope for something simple then. I did have the arm off the governor shaft, so maybe it didn't get tight enough. Do they not sell the shaft separately? The rider is our family rider at the cabin, so no hard feelings if I did break something. Who knows what he was trying to do with the thing anyways!

We are talking about two different things here. The governor arm attached to the shaft coming out the side of the engine has a clamp that is used to set the "Static Governor Setting" and is what I said might not have been tightened.

The shaft that I referred to as failing is what the governor runs on inside the engine and is pressed into the block and is not replaceable.
