The old Troybilt was one heck of a tiller and anything of that caliber is very expensive today.How much are you willing to spend, how big is your garden, how many hours do you expect to put on the machine in a season? The best sellers are Yard Machine, Craftsman, and the like because of price but I doubt you would be satisfied after having the T/B.

figured on spending around $1000. I know you get what you pay for. I want to buy a tiller that will last, so I guess the troy bilt is prob. the best choice. I havent used a tiller in quite a few years, so I just wanted some input on it. The whole bankrupt/MTD buy-out just made me think twice about it. I guess it would be safe to go ahead and purchase the troy bilt. I plan on a good size garden, maybe a 50'x 50' garden spot. Thanks for the input.

E-bay is a good source of pre MTD Troy Bilts. At the very least a place to check current values on the used models. There out there, keep looking. A couple of years ago I bought a 1985 model for $75. Mom and pop JD dealership closing down. It actually ran. I've spent a small amount of money since then on seals, bearings, and fluids. Did all the maintenance myself. The used dozer blade and chains cost me over $200 on e-bay. I'm in it for the long term, I hope I have years of gardening and snow removal left. Get yourself a Horse model and enjoy. Parts are readily available even for the older models. REJ2.

oh call State farm in Birmingham and ask them where they find that tiller for 300 something. lol That's what they told us they could get it for when our shed burnt and we'd paid 1000K for it! Someone told me I should have told them to go ahead and purchase it and ship it to me. I didn't even think of that!!!! UGHHHH I am replacing my Mantis that also burnt in the shed with the mantis 4 cycle made my Honda because those big tillers I just can't handle anymore.
