Never heard of Duerr, but I have a DR and was told to take the blade to a machine shop.

I would take the blade to a machine shop, or sharpen it myself on my bench grinder.....if I could get it out...or rather...if I could get THEM out. There are twenty blades that swivel on a drum, and I can't figure out how to get them off the drum. If I could get them off the drum without messing them up, I could reverse them and have a brand new cutting edge. As it is, I will have no choice but to try to sharpen them while still on the drum.

I know how to get them out I just sharpened mine. It is a job, email me if you wish and I can walk you through it or show you depending on where you live.

When you get them out you will find they have an angle which is usually between 40-45 degrees. A sander or sanding disk that has an angled rest makes it easy. A round grinder wheel easily rounds the blade instead of keeping it flat and while sharp you will see it does not pull like it used to.

each set of dogs have 5 blades with spacers find the rolling pin and use a drift pin to push it out please do one at the time rotate the drum so the big drift pin that holds the dogs lines up with the feeder hole on the left after totally taking out the drift pin between the dogs you can now push the big drift pin our into the space of the feeder hole notice take a picture of the location that the spacers occupy all dogs and spacers will slide down and out if you are the original owner you will notice that you can turn them 3 times before you sharpen if they are worn down like my dogs you cannot sharpen them so just turn them put all together go to ace buy new rolling pins you will need 4 put them in so they stick out same same and you have a new chipper ,please repeat 3 more times best to put chipper up so your back does not hurt so mush i am 85 and it took me a while but now it chips like a hungry wolf,do not try to take off the drum it has the magneto magnets and if you do not align properly the chipper is a paper weight also just do not use the blades just the dogs they will do a great job forget the vacuum it is a joke and burns out the motor ,as you take out the dogs please look for cracks in the drum fine hairlines if you see them do not put the dogs back without taking it to the welding shop and have all cracks welded you will thank me for this tip my friend did not take the advice and had a very loud noise after that the drum exploded and send shrapnel all over the yard i harvested a few parts but most was not usable anymore
