Blower - pine needles

I'm looking for a backpack blower to clear my 1/2 acre lawn. I have about 10 scrub pines that drop needles about 4" long where I would like to grow grass. I plan to use the blower about 4 times a year.

I've searched the forums and the web and I know what you are going to say, RedMax 7001 or 8000. But I was hoping to keep the price around $350.

Anyone have experience with removing pine needles? What CFM and/or MPH should I look for to clear pine needles from the grass, wet or dry doesn't really matter.

I've been considering the following:

Stihl BR340

Stihl BR550

Echo PB-413T

Redmax EB4401

Redmax EBZ5000-RH

Pricey:

RedMax EB7001-RH

Stihl BR600

You need the biggest most powerful blower available to blow large amounts of pine needles. like the big Redmax. I have an extremely powerful blower and if you ask me I could use even more power. Spend the extra $150. The expenditure will be insignificant over the life of the unit.

Orrr, you could use a rake, pine straw rakes easy, save some money and give your neighbors a break. I hate a blower and the idiot using one.

Excuse me. What's with the idiot comment? Perhaps you are on the wrong forum. Maybe you should go to name calling.com for more satisfaction. And take you rake with you.

A dealer may let you try your choices out. In fact that would be the dealer I would prefer, the one that will work to solve your problem. I don't have many pine needles so I don't have any insight as to how much power you would need to do this.

Would using a lawn mower with a bagger work to collect the needles?

I agree blowers are loud and annoying but less so than people with poor social skills ;).

Hah, What would you call someone that wants to blow pine straw, a leaf that has very little cross section, off a measly 1/2 acre. Your suggestion is the loudest most powerful. I seem to have drawn your ire by suggesting a more civilized option. I bet if you lived next door to him you would call him worse if he was disturbing you. By the way reading comprehension 101, I called no direct names, if you make the inference guess the shoe fits, eh?

Oh yeah, Have a nice day.

I hope you feel better now. You are correct about one thing. I am glad you are not my neighbor. Oh, about reading comprehension...I never mentioned the "loudest" blower. That was your words. Why not attack guys using units with bad mufflers at 6:00am. That's not me. I never intentionally make noise to annoy neighbors. In fact I'm all for quieter machines. I also like high performance machines that help get a job done faster and more efficiently. That's what outdoor power equipment is all about.

Yeah, hopefully the dealer will let me test them. That's probably my best bet.

Like I said, it's only about 4 times a year and I only have one neighbor, that could potentially get annoyed.

My lawn mower doesn't have enough suction and there's too many needles especially in the fall. Eventually I plan to invest in a rider so I can cut in front of the drainage ditch (increasing my lawn cutting area).

I tried raking last year and it wasn't that easy and very time consuming.
