I have the smallest Rubbermaid cart (8 cu.ft., about $200). Works well, has removeable sides, and dumping capability. Larger ones are 10 cf and 15 cf and cost up to about $500.

Kind of pricey, but better than the cheap HD and Lowes plastic stuff, yet more corrosion resistant than the steel construction.

I got mine second hand on Ebay.

Same quality as JD 10P, slightly bigger, and less $$$

There is a lot to consider.

Size- bigger is better in many cases, but it takes up space in the garage.

Height. I prefer the carts that have the axle right across the bottom of the cart (e.g. the center of the wheel is aligned with the bottom of the cart). This makes loading easier. That said, this arrangement gives you less of an angle when dumping. I have found you need to disconnected the hitch and tip the up to unload anyway (much like what your would do to empty a wheel barrow.

Material - Steel will rust. To much UV and plastic will crack. Metal will dent if you hit something (but that means it can be unbent) whereas plastic will crack if you hit something.

Tail gate - How easy is it to remove and replace? There is a lot of variability here. Generally I would recommend a hinged tail gate.

Overall quality. I bought a bottom-priced cart from Homeir and it is pretty shoddy. I lined it with some plywood and that has helped it last. The wheel bearings wore out after only a couple of years. I bought replacement wheels at a surplus outfit and we will see if they are any better than the original.

Budget. While the quality of my cart was pretty poor, I knew it was not a long term solution and bought it anyway. So if your budget is tight you may wish to compromise.

I hope this helps.

I got a really old cart mid 60's off craigs list and repainted it. Very heavy duty compared to todays stuff. I even lined the bottom with truck bed Herkuliner.

I have a metal one made by agri-fab. It is made of metal has a lift type tailgate and dumps. I use it for everything from hauling firewood, mulch, soil, rocks you name it.

You can get replacement parts easily too if needed, I once ran over the tailgate and I think a new one cost me a nominal sum.

Nice find.

Probably 60's or 70's.

I ran a farm stand out of one, and later, two of these. We had a roof, shelves, a large cooler.

I don't know what brand they were but one of the two was originally used with a Gravely 2-wheel

Pulled them out every day with a 1960 Wheel Horse suburban tractor.

This may outlast the JD! Nice find.
