safety

I have a Craftsman LT2000 riding mower, about 4 or 5 years old. When I disengage the blades (lever up and down), the blades keep turning. This model works off a cable system. I also have an older model that works off a mechanical type system that works great. Anyway, everything looks okay. But, with everything shut off, you can (by hand) pull the idler pulley forward some more. This takes the slack out of the clutch cable. I would think that it needs a spring pulling the idler pulley toward the front. However, I can't see where one is called for on the owner's manual.????????
