McCulloch Trimmer problems

I have a very old (13+years) McCulloch trimmer and it still ran pritty good until a little while ago it doesn't accellerate good and for most of the time it runs best at half choke when i take choke off and go to squeeze the throttle it bogs down then slowly gets up to full throttle it never did this before. Any ideas of what a problem could be?

McCulloch has been split up and in Australia the name is owned by Electrolux but I have seen Poulan and Husqvrana chain Saws re badged as McCulloch. What appears to be the original designed McCulloch is made in China and is sold under a different name.

So to answer richibaby all I can suggest is that you hunt around and see if you can Identify the name of the original manufacturer and go from there.

Kyle without seeing your Trimmer I can only say that depending on the amount of fuel it is spraying out the exhaust it is either flooded in which a clean out is all that is needed, alternatively you could have a blocked air inlet or filter causing it to draw in to much fuel or as you suggest you need a Carby rebuild. I do not know if you have fuel with a percentage of ethanol in it, but if you do, do not use it in small petrol powered appliances as the ethanol attacks the diaphragms and gaskets in the carby.

Did you solve the problem with your trimmer? Was it a kinked or worn fuel-line as described in the echo thread? I ask because my trimmer (a McCulloch "Roadrunner" now 15+ yrsold)is having the same problems halfway through this season and it has always been a strong runner.

no, its working no better, the gas line is not kinked in fact it seems its getting too much fuel, if i squeeze the throttle it boggs down then slowly picks up or quits. i got it up to full throttle then i held it for a 10 min or so and it ran ok. I probably won't mess with it too much its old and i may just get a new one if i can get it working better

Guys.
It sounds to me that for some reason your unit is running too lean.
1.
Check the fuel system to ensure it is ok and no blocked filters etc.

2.
Clean out the fuel tank and put some fresh fuel in it.

3.
If the above does not fix the problem adjust the jets in the carburettor. It is possible that with all this pollution stuff happening that the formulation of the fuel you are using has changed causing the unit to change tune.

4.
Always use the same brand of fuel.

An adjustment probably won't be strong enough on a trimmer that old. You should look in to rebuilding the carb. The kit will cost around $11 retail and takes less than 1/2 hr even if you don't know what you are doing. A shop would probably charge you $40 like I used to, lol.

Just bought a used trimmer, seems to be around 5 yrs old. Gas was leaking out where fuel line enters tank. Pulled it and line broke off at tank. Do I need a new tank?

I have a McCulloch roadrunner trimmer and when I try to start it it sprays fuel out the exhaust. Any suggestions??? I suspect a carburetor rebuild is the answer but not sure if something else would cause this as well.

Thank you dock for your help on this. It is not spraying a heap of fuel but does spray every time cord is pulled, probably enough to cover our palm if you held in front of exhaust. I've pulled carby apart and gaskets & diaphragm looks good but from my experience you can't be sure until you've changed them. I think I'll rebuild it n see what happens.
