Valve lash setting

I have a Briggs & Stratton 18 HP OHV engine

Model 31M777 Type 0234E1 Code 030206ZE

It had no compression - I pulled the valve cover and the little cap that belongs on top of the valve stem had fallen out and the valve was stuck open.

I cleaned up the valves, lapped then in and reassembled

I didn't find a cause for this failure

Does anyone have the correct valve adjustment procedure

I do and many people are saying that the Ethanol Fuel we are using today is causing valves to stick. IF I were you, I would use something like Marvel Mystery Oil, per instructions on the can, for a while.
