This forum is slow!!!!!

The server this forum is on runs really slow! It is almost impossible to type out a message, and I have to wait forever for one to come up if I click on it.

Frustrating!

It may be something on your end. I have dial-up, running at about 45 kbps, and the only thing that slows up the complete loading of a page, is one with a huge photo file. Normal time to open a forum and a posted message is only a few seconds.

What kind of time are you estimating for loading a page? or loading a post? Perhaps you need to do maintenance like disc cleanup or defrag. What do you have for a computer, and what OS are you using. Then again, computer crud like spyware and the likes will annoy easily. Ya might even have dropped some of the filling from them peanut butter and banana sandwiches into your keyboard, and that might stick things up. LOL.

Then again, some of us have jobs to go to, or we work at home, or the Mrs. has stuff for us to do, like replacing the front fender on her car,(did that today!) or maybe mowing our yards, or going to the parts supplier to order parts, or answering the pager call from the local Fire company (45 yrs.)
We don't spend every waking hour on the computer! I have to wait until after dark, because i'm so busy doing what needs to be done in daylight!
Be patient-somebody will answer your query, sooner or later! Any way, whats the hurry? Rome wasn't built in a day!

I wasnÂt saying people are slow at responding, only that I canÂt do anything without waiting here. I didnÂt think my problem was with my computer, because every other site and forum I go to doesnÂt have the same problem. IÂm on a Mac (1.5 GHz G4 laptop) and have DSL. IÂm not sure what the problem is.

I had the same problem with Explorer and switched to Firefox. Much better.

    Hey Rusty,

Since ya mentioned answering the pager for fire response, I thought I'd add a bit on my end.

We had a call for a car-be-cue last week. I got there a couple minutes after the pumper, and two guys were working on the car. I worked the pump until things were settled down. The guy who got there first wanted the second guy to get an entry tool to open the hood. He got the tool and started twisting and prying, and generally doing nothing useful. I got down off the pumper, walked over to the car, unlocked the door; since the window was open and the lock button was pushed down; pulled the hood release, and still had to help the kid find the safety latch for the hood. The entry tool did come in handy to hold the hood open, so it wasn't totally useless. I was busy with other things like you, so I didn't want to waste my morning waiting for the kid to bend the hood all up.

That is a good one GG. A few weeks ago I watched some people pouring extinguishers on an alternator fire so I asked, "can you reach the battery and unhook it?" The kid grabbed the loose ground cable and yanked it off. Problem solved.

It is slower now.....its all these pop-ups that are on here now....I have high speed connection too. Sometimes you have to refresh the page a time or two to get it to load. The pop up blocker is working overtime every time you click on a page. Seems if you click on a page at the same time a pop up occurs...then you have to refresh....or the pop up cancels out the page or thread you clicked on...it did'nt use to be like this!

I have not seen ONE pop-up or floating ad since being a paid member.

Hum, is that a benefit of being a paid member, no pop-ups? I have continued to pay membership even though some of the forums I use are now "free" because I want to support the club. Now, getting something extra is nice too.

As for speed of the GardenWeb server, I don't have a problem and I too use a dial-up. Of course, photos take a while to download, but even that isn't a problem. A series of photos, well that's another matter.

    I use Firefox.

It is all of the pop ups, quick click double lines..
    lawn
    garden
    compost
mule meat. (hey it's good on the grill..
    etc

The more garbage that they have added since Spike gave it up has down a number on it.

It is a lot slower, I've noticed it too.

Only thing worse than being slow.....is all the advetising and pop-ups..........I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!!

Yup, The only thing fast, is the way it's going downhill.
It's too bad there is no competetive site.

What I've noticed is that the top banner loads fast, but there is a pause before the rest of the page loads. Methinks the powers that be do this so you'll read the banner out of boredom.

    There is. 275,919 members

Here is a link that might be useful: Dave's Garden

What's the purpose behind dragging this ancient thread out of the archives?

There is no Tool Shed forum or tractor forum on Dave's Garden.

Therefore, it's hardly a competitiv site, is it?

Or are you just here to lure people away?

Dave's also limits the free users. You have to pay for full access. Often times what I wanted to read was in the subscription part.

When I went to Internet Explorer 7 from IE 6, it ran much slower, and would hang for many seconds. I finally went back to IE 6 and everything runs fast again. I am also on DSL with AT&T. Charles Ranheim

IE7 is worse then IE5, actualy in my opinion IE is a horrable browser compared to Mozilla Firefox. Ive got At&t DSL Pro and firefox works alot better then any version of IE. If anyone has a problem with slow loading on IE or firefox most likely you have too many cookies and temps built up in your system. There is an easy program called "cleanup" that you can find on google and it is a 1 click program to delete all temps and cookies from your internet folder. yesterday at the computer shop I work at we used cleanup on a computer that removed almost 11 gigabytes of internet cookies. To those who dont know that its a lot, enough to keep IE from even opening. Sometimes Ads can be coming from inside your computer and not just a website. Adware and Spyware tend to collect inside your computer especialy if your using IE and have or have no firewall. Download 2 free programs called Spybot search and destroy and Adware SE, those programs take care of spyware, Bots, trojans, and adware. For those of you who have AT&T get free antivirus/antispyware software called (CA) Computer Associates and that is not one of the best Antivirus programs out there today! Ok im done with my lexure now I have to go back to work lol.
