So destructive..

but so cute! I've been leaving an area of lawn unmowed for weeks now and watching these youngsters grow. They've been known to eat small roses to the ground..and decimate an entire row of greenbeans overnight. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age but at least I haven't given them names..

Mama Bunny uncovered the nest 2 days ago..telling them "you are on your own". Yet, they stay..

I think you should call them Fuzzy, Wuzzy, and Buzzy. They are adorable!

    Yum, rabbit stew :)

OOOh, baby bunnies! So cute. (Until they start eating roses, then all bets are off!)

    Oh. My. Goodness.

That is a nest of total cuteness!

I had this outside my back door a few years ago. They never left, and regarded me as their friend - coming up close, and not running away. They ended up ruining a rose. I have never decided what I should have done about them. Good luck.

But what a great picture they make. I am kind of a softie too when it comes to bunnies. Cutie pies. Yes, they do eat anything they can get into their mouths, but imagine if they try to eat blackberries and those mean old snakes eat them. That is so mean.

My DH said he served them with an eviction notice..this morning they are gone. (No, he didn't hurt them) However, they've been gone before and returned later in the day. No telling what they are eating! DH has a bunnie fence around his entire veggie garden and did tell me that Elmer Fudd is on standby. What has suprised me is that the dogs have never found the nest..some hunters Border Collies are!

I was wondering about the dogs...
The only rabbits I see around here are ones the dogs drag up. Sadie is a good hunter! If only they would do that to snakes.

Snakes bite! And in Texas some are downright poisonous so maybe your dogs are pretty darn smart to leave them alone!
Not that I have ever seen an actual dog smart enough to leave them alone! Brings out the macho dog in them!

Kaye I've got their Ohio Bunny cousins in my garden. One day last week I got so frustrated that I opened the gate to my little garden behind the house and let Cookie into it and said "go get em!"
I didn't really want her to get him, just chase him and scare him away.
All I could do was laugh because I had no idea they were SO fast! Cookie barely had a paw in the garden and that bunny was gone like a shot. It moved almost faster than I could turn my head!
Bunnies will always be safe from Cookie. The Border Collie half of her wants to chase it, but the big, slow Golden Retriever half will never get there lol.
And to serve me right I think she did more damage in her joyful dash through the garden than the bunny did...

Jackie, I can relate. Spanky, the older, tore his ACL (we call it his football injury) about 2 years ago chasing a rabbit and is now slower on 3 legs. Vet did surgery but he's never been the same. Buckwheat can catch them since he's just a youngster but he just plays with them..same with moles..catch and release. He did the same with a wasp this morning..he's still learning!

    "some hunters Border Collies are!

But I bet he would have herded those rabbits very well.

My cat has been doing chipmunk patrol. It keeps him occupied. I just saw him dive into a pile of brush, but he came up empty handed. Good thing because his usual MO is to present his prey to mommy, in the house, alive. Been there, done that, don't want to chase chimpmunks through the house again.

LOL at the great furry hunters! Max the Moo keeps himself entertained hunting lizards... he will dash happily through the roses, glads and whatever else is handy in search of his prey. the lizard, meanwhile, has climbed to a safe spot on high and watches the dog with an expression of amused contempt on his lizardy face...

Oh yes...I had the chipmunk in the house "prize". My cat was so proud to bring it to me...and then...once she saw how intent I was on capturing it decided to love me more and let me be the one to "play" with it (she loves me). No help from her during my 2 hour hunt and capture!!

I finally tried to scare it so it ran into a gift bag. I picked the bag up and tried to hold the top closed as I made my way to the door.....I was unaware that a chipmunk can shoot 10 feet into the air!! I think I aged 10 years in that moment.

    Yes...our babies do love us!

Your babies are/were cute. I think I would have relocated them to a near by field or forest. Hope they wander far from home for the sake of your roses. :o)

Oh yes, I agree with buford. Good rabbit stew. Reminds me of the story I read about the guy that was working the information desk at a plant festival of some sort and a little old lady came up and asked him what he used for rabbits and he replied 2 cups of red wine and fresh carrots, potatos, celery, and onions. She slowly nodded and walked away!!

Oh no! I couldn't hurt them, but I know how mad I've gotten at Bambi and the English Sparrows that I call "the damn little birds"

    Feh.

Rats with big ears and jumping legs........

That is precious. I'm surprised mama let you get so close unless you used a longer lens. I know they are a nuisance, but I have a soft spot in my heart for almost all creatures. The squirrels or chipmunks are doing far more damage than any rabbits so far. I did put chicken wire cages around two roses I rooted which will come off if they take off, but didn't do anything to protect anything else except Liquid Fence. Now we have finally gotten so much rain and more forecast, it won't be effective until it dries out, if at all. Got some on my jeans and had to change, that stuff stinks, but once it dries, it's not bad. I love those darn critters, have tamed some to eat out of my hand, but they have dug in several of my potted plants and other areas of my garden where I started baby's breath in potting soil, must like the looser soil or something, and have been very destructive and a nuisance.

When you have as many "bunnies" as we do, 3 more aren't going to make a difference. Mowed their nest area..they have officially left home. I did see one yesterday as I was weedeating nearby. You know, I never did see the momma..the babies were there by themselves each time I looked. We had a garden tour and everyone with a camera wanted a picture. They were so used to me peeking in on them, they didn't seem to mind all the attention. Yes, they are a nusiance..but I think I'd take rabbits over deer and armadillo anytime. 24" chickenwire will protect most plants from the shorter varmits.
