Let me begin by simply stating I am a huge fan of this plant. A very attractive and unique long-flowering ground cover. It is also unusual and surprisingly rare and you don't often seen it around in gardens or at garden centres. One "issue" it has is that the leaves turn a lovely scarlet in the Fall (which, next to Japanese Blood Grass, is no criticism) and then brown. Come Spring, the brown leaves are still there. I have two large patches in my front garden. It is easy enough to pull most of the brown leaves off, and new green leaves come. But I want the tight, green-leaf-by-green-leaf ground cover of the first two years of the patch, without sacrificing a year...the few references to the plant online suggest "easily divided in Spring".
OK, so if you actually have it, how do you maintain it to maximize its benefits and minimize its detriments? How often do you divide it? How do you divide it? and so on. I truly hope somebody has insight to share on this lovely plant.
