Post a picture of your loppers, brand, model and Etc. I would think most can be sharpened. I would ask a local Yardman, Hardware Store or Lawn Mower Repair Shop if they can sharpen yours. Run a search to see if you can find a new pair.

I recently bought my 79 year old mother the Fiskars 15 Inch PowerGear Super Pruner/Lopper. It's got a cutting capacity of 1.25 inches and is very lightweight. They also have 20" versions that are even lighter but if you are small, you may want the additional leverage of the 24".

I like these for overhead work as they are very light and last much longer than the low end Corona and Fiskars that are at the chain hardware stores.

Lowes and Home Depot sell cheap junk. How about getting some good advise from your local gardening store?

Rarely I pick up a tool and go WOW, THIS IS THE ONE. Got it at Orchard Hardware.

I too was put off by the weight of all the loppers I picked up at HD, Lowe, all of them have these metal handles that makes me go, no way am going to lug this thing around the garden all day, then I picked up these, what looks like plastic handle loppers, coming in at 2-3 LB. I dunno about sturdiness but I don't care since I use these things maybe twice/year.
