My new replacement kohler command engine runs great has alot of torque and smooth, but!!!! I have to question the quality of the AL. casting. Kohler filter housing is cast in to the lower sump assy. I guess it cheaper to cast lower sump in one piece than it would be to make a bolt on adapter for the filter housing.

Anyway, my engine was blowing oil, course being a nitpicking oil changing nerd I can't stand dirty engine bay. So I set out to find the leak. first I thought it was the dip stick tube, so I resealed that, next I thought it was the low oil pressure switch, nope, Beings the oil is so clean along with my engine bay it was hard to locate it.

Well, I just happen to notice the casting where the oil filter seals had a big bow. I could see at least 1/8" or more of the seal where the filter mates to the housing from one side of the filter to the other.

It was bowl shaped at least 1/8" bow in the middle. got out the flat file and when to work leveling the outside edge. So far it sealing. Maybe a flute??? or something to look for when buying new???

Yes it was a genuine Kohler filter that I thought was warpped when I spin if off, but the housing surface was so warpped it warpped the filter.
