underground drainage systems

We're getting ready to install an underground drainage system using the black perforated pipe. This is to alleviate some flooding problems at the back of the house. Our plan is to also have the gutters/downspouts run into this system, as well as two drainage pipes behind retaining walls. It will drain into a rock bed at the back of our yard. My questions are:

1. What size rocks do we use when burying the pipe?

2. How much of this rock do we use? For instance, is it two inches all the way around the pipe?

3. What size rocks do we use for the outlet area?

4. Is there some magical formula to help us determine how big the outlet area should be? For instance if we have X amount of water flowing in, it should be X sq feet big?

Any additional advice, suggestions, experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!
