My grandfather has an unbelievable amount of 1/8" drip irrigation hose and fittings. When I've looked around at local supply stores, I always see 1/4" but never any hose or fittings for 1/8" size.

So what's the story? Just a rare size, or has it become obsolete in favor of the bigger stuff?
