My DH received one last year for Father's Day or B-day... we used it some. It was nice for it to coil back up. Although, after a while, it didn't coil as nice as it originally did. I've seen 'holders' or mounts for them, maybe if they are contained more they retain their coiling...

Most of the time we have the longer garden hose attached.

There may be a difference between them, will have to see others inputs.

It is one of the products I wouldn't replace.

Here's what I find the problem is: improper usage. Just like the old telephone cords that got all twisted up, you have to be sure not to twist the hose as you go along watering. Don't turn to water something behind you without making sure the coil is not being turned into a different direction.

Keeping it in a container designed for it also helps.

I tried a coil hose but it was extremely frustrating and I ended up giving it away. It kept getting caught on itself and I had to keep untangling it. After a few times being stretched out it wouldn't coil back much at all and it ended up in a messy pile. Also it wouldn't stay put on the lawn but would roll into the garden beds if I tried stretching it out. I'm back to a regular hose.

I bought a couple because I thought they would be useful to water the small plants around our back patio. The coils on the thing pull too hard when I'm trying to water, making me worry about damaging the hose bib and plumbing. Then the coils hook on everything in the path. I almost never use the one I still have, and I gave my second one away. I'll replace the coil hose that's still connected the first chance I get with something lighter and not coiled.
