These flywheels may be able to be pulled w/ a gear puller- however, they can break and easier than you think. I don't think anything else would be broken. Maybe you could sweet talk your local engine shop to pull it cheap.

The Tecumseh tool is merely a knockoff nut that is screwed on after the nut, starter cup, and cupped washer are removed.
You can accomplish the same thing by running the flywheel nut on so it is flush with the end of the shaft.Pry up firmly on the edge of the flywheel (don't overdo it) and hit the end of the shaft smartly with a decent sized hammer. Make sure to hit it dead on, not at an angle. The flywheel should pop loose.

I'd look at page 33 of the manual first.
