I am not a bike guy but that looks like too nice a piece to butcher. The engine would be pretty much useless on a mill application, they work better with steady high torque low speed power units.

To ewalk: Sorry, i didn't see your message until just now. fYI: My cousin collects and rebuilds Triumph Motorcycles. He tells me those older Moto-cross bikes bring big bucks!
that said, and since i am not well-versed about them, although i feel i have some smarts along that line, having ridden motorcycles (street types) for some years, and being interested in the preservation of older things, including me, therefore, i have discovered that the ignorant among us just take an old Model T Ford to the scrap yard, collect their measly remittance, and go home, feeling mighty proud that they collected $35 for the old car! This happens quite frequently. Many years ago, i heard of a nice old Model A Ford that a junk man had just hauled to his junk yard, not an hour ago. So, i dashed down there, only to find the stupid "junkie" had set it on fire, to burn out the insides, so he could take it to the scrap yard!

Well I thought you had died and gone to "H" I owned a 1969 Penton 6 day Trials 125 . Sold it when I bought a Hondaka Super Rat . I kicked myself that I let the Old Penton go . So I was just inquiring if the Bike was roadworthy and if your intended selling it ? I would hate to see it Parted out if it could be put back into use . Let me Know Rusty !

No, I am not selling a motorcycle. I already sold my last MC about 3 years ago, protesting to my dear wife that i could still ride! At 82 YOA! And, the guy who bought it never rode it, nor covered it up in the winter and snow and rain. It is still sitting just where i delivered it to his place! guess i should of kept it, but i needed the cash, so it went. A cousin is 79 or so--still rides his MC all over the State of Pennsylvania, and others, to meets. Rides a Honda silver wing, collects British Triumphs. I'm now 4 months past 85, and would and could ride again, if i had a bike!

Oh ok I thought the you were saying that you were going to make a saw mill out of this Penton you say you picked up at the Auction. Actually it's not a Moto cross but a Enduro which was utilized in Scrambles in Europe and then caught on
in North America . Nice Bike not many 175's brought to America mostly 125 and 250's ! Sorry about the confusion Dude ! I have had everything from Nortons to Harleys just hated to think you were going to scrap this unit lol .

I was a Triumph mechanic right after I got out of the service. Left there to work in the mines but had a side business for about 20 years of repairing Triumphs until they vanished from sight.

My '63 TR6, that I bought in '72 was sold on ebay in 2007 for $3000 to a guy in Wisconsin, who traveled to PA to pick it up. He went to Hawaii a month later for vacation and died of a heart attack. His wife asked if I wanted it back. I said no, thinking that I didn't want to end up in a wheelchair at my age by some stupid accident.

Note: I am not the guy who suggested making that nice Penton into a saw mill! Geez--read the name on the header.
'nother thing--I bought my first cycle-a 1936 Indian Twin cylinder, Chief Model. Red in color, had the big Indian Chief logo on the tank, a real fast bike! got it soon after i came home from the Army, and got settled in to civilian life. Decided i needed some excitement in my life, as if combat wasn't enough, and the loss of my left foot, to a land mine not with-standing! So, i bought the Chief! $200 for it! Wish i had it now. Sold it when i got married, then bought a Harley, never got it to run right, sold it, and bought a whole pile of old Ford cars and trucks! Fixed each one up, then sold it to get cash to live on, pay for the house, keep my wife in food, clothes, etc., and feed our three adopted children!
Learned the auto body trade, and kept that until retirement at around age 72!

Well the Penton took a back seat and wouldn't you know it the Friday before Christmas a mint 2005 Honda CRF450R came up on craigslist for short money and I picked it up. I am going to restore the Penton, in fact I joined the Penton Owners Group and am going to the AMA Hall of fame next month where Kip Kern is holding a Penton-KTM school. When completed I plan on entering a few AHRMA events. The way that I look at it it's cheaper than a girlfriend.
