JD LT155 Belt problem

While cutting the other day the mower belt jumped a pulley wheel.I've removed the 38 inch deck to free the belt. and reinstalled the belt, there is too much slack and the deck wont engage.

Suggestions? It is correctly installed as far as I can tell from the owners manual. Can these belts stretch? Its 9 years old. Time for a new one?

Any other ideas?

Stretch is minimal, though at 9 y/o it just could be due! My guess is you have a routing issue if it won't engage at all. Do the spindles look true? Some times they break and tip inward and you can't keep tension on them this way.

My LT155 has the Freedom 42" deck...but I do know that routing can be a bit confusing on these tractors. At 9 years you probably should replace the belt, but make sure that all tensioners and pulleys are moving freely and under spring tension if they're supposed to be.....

Is there a way to post a pic of your belt routing? Can varify if for you.

You can search the JD website under customer support for an owners manual etc if you don't have one. You should be still be able to download one for free too.

Took a few minutes yesterday and sure enough I'd goofed on the tracking of the belt. So I went off and cut the grass....and got a new problem...and will start a new thread on that.

Well, I'm glad you solved one problem....I ruined a brand-new belt on my LT155 by not routing it correctly. I also broke a few blades on the tranny cooling fan....had to buy a new one of those. I love the tractor, but the belt routing is really tricky.
