I have a craftsman mower, model number 917.254791. I have been struggling with the deck height adjustment. The deck lever has 6 notches for different height levels. The deck height is too low making 5 of them basically useless. The manual says it will cut grass to a height of 1-1/4" to 3-3/4", but the heighest i can get it is about 2-1/2".

Something is off, because on level pavement the deck hits the ground at notch 3. I have to use the highest notch setting to get the proper grass height. I would think that if it has 6 height settings, it would be made to hit the ground at the bottom (1st) notch. The tires are inflated properly & the deck is level side-to-side. I've tried raising and lowering those two adjstment nuts at the rear of the deck, but it has little affect.

Is there another adjustment somewhere?
