V Graft

Flat Graft

If you ask me, I like flat with few reasons.
1. faster
2. easier.
3. It heals better
4. use less scions
5. more branches coming out of it.

I have more luck with flat grafting method.

For me the V grafting is much easier but I like the looks of the flat graft better. Perhaps I'm just more comfortable with the V grafting since I graft a lot of conifers that way.

I agree with Marie. However, if I'm in a panic I end up doing a v graft. Flat grafts just look so much better from the start.

I am my worst critic because it took me years to perfect my grafting ways. But if I were to choose one I liked from beginning to end ...it would be the flat graft. The union is weak in the first stage of recovery but once it heals it's impossible to break.

And for the other way of grafting ...I have tried two more but are not reliable.

The 45 degree angle graft works but when the scion starts to grow it puts too much stress on the graft that it tears it off.

The other was bark grafting. Took the skin off of one and placed it in a small one.

Both worked but long-term were no good for the plant.
