I have Swamp Milkweed and Orange Butterfly Weed if you can use them. Maybe a few other things too. I'll have to look. This was my first year with the SMW and the Monarchs were loving it.

That is perfect. Jen said it was ok to post the school's link to her class website so I'm going to try. She told me tonight that someone or more than 1 had pulled up some plants, cut others down, & threw dirt all over the sidewalk. Hope they get the meanness out of their systems before anymore work is done. e me & I'll send the school's address or if you'd rather do SASBE I'll send it to you with the school's address on it. PS Last year I planted sunflowers with my DD preschool class. They loved it. My only tips are 1) use 2 liter bottles because they develop deep roots fast. 2) count on them germinating fast and reaching bloom quickly. I used Teddybear and yellow multibranch dwarf sunflowers. My DD loved watching the finches eat the seeds. Unfortunately, the birds were faster than we were and got all the seeds before we could harvest them LOL. PLMK, Shannon/Dirtrx

Bev, you absolutely MUST go to the Butterfly Gardening forum. There is a lady on the forum (probably several), but one I know of for sure, who is a teacher, and is very active on the forum. If you tell them you are looking for seeds for a butterfly garden, you will absolutely be inundated. They LOVE to give and are so wonderful and joyous about sharing their love of butterflies and moths. Every question you or your friend has will be promptly answered. They are the most wonderful people I have ever met on the forums. They would almost have to be, to love and want to preserve some of our most beautiful creatures, wouldn't they?

They will be so thrilled to help out. Please tell them that I sent you over there, and let them know why you're there. Tdogmom is one of the members, she is the teacher, and will have so many suggestions and ideas to help your friend out. This is so exciting. I love to hook people up with our butterfly group!

I may even have some extra seeds they sent me for sure. Someone just sent me extra hairy indigo seeds, which is a host plant for the marine blue butterflies. I just checked the USGS website "Butterflies of North America". They have a map you can click on for your state, and it will list the butterflies that have been reported in your state by county. This butterfly, the Marine blue, has been reported in Texas, and it looks like possibly in the Lubbock area.

Anyway, please go to the Butterfly Gardening forum and request seeds and info for your friend. They don't have an exchange yet, but tons of people will offer to send you some.

Cool - we love adding people to the butterfly forum. If she is really interested in Monarchs, too, she can get her school designated as a Monarch Waystation, which is really cool.

Hi Bev,
What a fun idea! They also have a very big space so should be able to raise a lot of pretty flowers the butterflies will love. They may want to plant parsley throughout the garden. Butterflies like to lay their eggs there so the baby caterpillars have something yummy to eat when the eggs hatch. Loved seeing the pictures of the children working to prepare the site. Will they have stepping stone paths so they can walk throughout the garden? Maybe, if it isn't too much trouble, you can post pictures as the project goes along and then in full bloom in summer. Those kids will be so proud of their efforts!

Hi Tina, thanks so much for the help. You can address the envelope to Jennifer Felty K. When they come up here for Christmas break I'm giving her my molds for stepping stones & showing her how to mix them up. Jen will be keeping a picture diary on the website for everyone to see. Parsley is 1 of the seeds I hope she gets lots of, I gave her some of mine but they were old so don't know how much germination she'll get. Can you put a short note in with the seeds saying where you are & a return address. You might get a note or 2 back. Thanks
