simplicity tractor using oil

I have a 2 year old simplicity prestige tractor with a 23 hp kohler engine. Lately when started it bellows out a could of blue smoke that gradually subsides as the tractor is running.I change the oil and filter at least twice a season and I'm only cutting a 1/2 acre of grass. I would hope an engine would last more than two seasons before using oil. Any help is greatly appreciated. George

It takes very little oil in the combustion chamber to make a blue cloud on start up.

Can you see oil level dropping on the dip stick between oil changes?

Are you using the correct Kohler OEM oil filters?

Are you using dino oil or synthetic?

Are you using the recommended weight and grade oil?

How long does the tractor sit between starts?

I had to add about a pint of oil yesterday. I haven't checked the oil level before that but I'll keep an eye on it now for sure.
I've been using Castrol 10W30 oil and changing the oil twice a year. The tractor sets between a day and a week between starts.

It's not uncommon to gget a puff of blue smoke on cold start up.

Usually the result of oil weeping down the valve guides.

If you broke the engine in correctly I wouldn't be concerned until there is significant oil consumption.
