Many years ago - I confess - I stole a leaf from an AV that my colleague was growing on a windowsill. It was my first one that I grew - started it in water myself and it did well for me. So - one day year later- I stopped by and told the guy what I did. And gave him an Optimara Dali for compensation. He is still growing both of them even if he doesn't work in the same office anymore.
Thank you, irina! And great story! Good for you for being so honest and good fortune for your co-worker! I will also confess to having pinched a leaf from a violet at an office I was visiting a few months ago. It has recently sprouted a new baby, but I rather doubt that anyone even noticed the leaf was missing or would be interested in compensation, though I'd be glad to if I thought they would.
several years later I borrowed his plant wih his permission - and got the best prize in a Dog show. It was a very healthy and abundantly blooming very long stalk palm tree. After the show I cut it off and rerooted it for him. It is probably even longer now.
