It will work if you're looking for a plan that is very structured and layered in straight lines. Although this arrangement could have a tropical flare, in the tropics there's a lushness that requires more than a few straight line plantings of two different kinds of plants.

I don't grow canna lilies, but I think they take a lot of water - and your hostas will likely need a lot of water, too, if they'll be in a full sun position.

It looks nice in your mock-up. If it pleases you, try it; plants are easy to move if something doesn't turn out like you envisioned.

Hostas like shade, cannas like sun, either one or the other will not be happy and not look good.

Spruces are TREES and get huge. They will coexist with the cannas for 2 or 3 years, then there will not be any room for cannas. I would not use TREES as a backdrop for my flowers, unless you have a gap of at least 10 feet. Try some tall perennials instead.
